Portrait of our son 2004

[Click here to view the Painting Gallery]
Media: Acrylic on canvas. 15H x 30W Not For Sale but prints are available. Other: One of my personal favourites. Painted while on a little holiday at my mom's in 'Toby's' room. Toby was mom's dog and 'his' room doubled as the room I slept in when visiting an on this occasion as my studio. The image is based on a snap shot of my son taken while we were playing in grandma's front yard earlier in that year. Someone once told me, "Your portraits aren't exactly normal." I believe I answered, "Thank you." ::thrive! O |

I love that art encapsulates a slot in time, a memory...and what is especially attractive to me about this medium of creativity is that no one else has to know what it means, unless you choose to tell them (us). And even then the words may not say anything, but knowing from posts past what it expresses, well, words aren't always necessary are they?

There's a lot to be said for allowing a work of art to speak for itself even as it says something different to each viewer as each viewer brings to the painting their own feelings and ideas. Really, that's the way I like it best rather than over explaining a piece.

I like this very much. It reminds me of the beautiful murals that children have painted on the middle school and high school walls, before they "learn" what colours are normal for portraits. (My favourite was the blue Martin Luther King Jr. on the wall of an auditorium.)

This painting is possibly the only one of yours I watched in progress. I commented "er but is it upside down?". You said "well thats the way your grandson was laying when I looked at him". Silly me, I forgot for a moment, that right side up is conventional thinking.Your approach to art is as unique as you are.
I love this painting and the memories attatched.
